Inspec begin a 12 month project to replace outdated LAF electronic regulation control systems. The systems will be based upon the Rockwell Controllogix range of PLC's and RSView SCADA systems.
Inspec have won a project for Corus Blast Furnaces to replace the Coal Injection control systems for the Queen Mary furnace. The system comprises two large MCC's and the plant is controlled by 22 Rockwell SLC 5/05, 2 Controllogix & 6 RSView SCADA stations, all new as part of Inspecs supply.

Inspec have secured a project to automate an automatic furnace charger for a major metals company. The system is operated by selections on an Intouch SCADA system with the vehicle then to move safely to the required position and carry out the required operation. The control is achieved via a Rockwell Contollogix PLC system with interface to the main factory systems via radio ethernet.

Inspec have begun a project upgarde the cotrol and protection systems on all pre-heater and ladle drier systems in the Corus Scunthorpe BOS plant. There are 12 systems in total, each controlled by a Rockwell Controllogix PLC. The systems will be integrated into the overall BOS plant control network allowing increasing integration of the whole plant.

Inspec have been awarded a contract to design a system utilising lasers to track the positions of three cranes in the casting bay at Corus’ plant in Scunthorpe. The systems will be based on Rockwell equipment and will have MMI’s mounted in the crane cabs giving graphical representations of the crane position and operation.
Following a successful acceptance testing phase the GCI Plant for Port Talbot Steel Works has now been fully installed and commissioning has begun on site with start-up of the new plant scheduled for early 2006.

Inspec have commenced a project to modify the Risk Manager application for Petrol Terminals across the UK for the Energy Institute, the system is closely based on the UK Retail system, but contains much more detailed area, hazard and control measure data relating specifically to risks inherent in Petrol Distribution facilities. The system is due for pilot testing during Feb and March 2006.
DigitalHR Netherlands pilot commences with six stores running the application. The system is due to go live on 1st March 06 to all stores in the Netherlands with a live feed to the payroll system being fully tested and implemented by 15th March 06.

The placement of a similar contract to replace the existing Ferranti systems at the Dawes Lane Coke Oven Batteries has been announced following on from the placement of the Appleby Coke Ovens Systems at Corus’ Scunthorpe Works. The system will replace the existing Ferranti DCS systems with MTL 8000 Series Dual Redundant systems and a large Wonderware Intouch application with 12 view nodes. A further 4 Rockwell SLC systems and 13 Eurotherm loop controllers will be supplied and integrated into the whole control scheme.

Inspec Solutions have been awarded two contracts to upgrade the whole of Corus’ Appleby Coke Ovens Battery and By-Products Plant control systems. Four Ferranti DCS systems will be replaced by two large dual redundant Rockwell Controllogix PLC Systems, an Intouch application alongside two SQL database systems providing historical logging and data storage, reports and analysis of plant operation will provide the graphical front end of the systems. The SCADA systems will have in total 20 Intouch nodes for viewing and reporting across two control rooms, maintenance personnel and managers and engineers offices off plant. In addition, across the two systems there will be 7 SLC and 2 Controllogix Rockwell systems and 27 Eurotherm Loop Controllers to be integrated into the scheme.

The DigitalHR application has been running successfully in the UK for 3 years, managing all HR and timesheet requirements for all BP petrol stations in the UK. BP Retail have commissioned Inspec Solutions to create a version for the companies business in the Netherlands. The system will cover all employees at all the company’s petrol stations in the Netherlands and will be available for users in either Dutch or English. The system is due to begin rolling out in early 2006.

The Risk Manager application originally developed for the UKPIA group in the UK has now been fully translated into Greek, Turkish, Spanish, Portuguese and French and is now actively being rolled out into the BP Oil Mediterranean Business Unit. Plans are now afoot to web enable the application and allow reporting on assessment data across the whole region via a dedicated web site accessible to all countries staff. The system will ultimately be used by in excess of 3000 dealer sores across the five countries.

Inspec Solutions have secured 2 projects to upgrade existing systems at Outokumpu’s SMACC site in Sheffield. The two new systems will control the Electric Arc Furnace and the Caster and Furnaces Water Cooling Plant. Both existing systems are currently GEM80 PLC applications and will be replaced with Rockwell PLC’s. The controls for both plants will be incorporated into the existing Intouch SCADA systems.
In addition Inspec Solutions are undertaking the E&IC aspects of two projects in conjunction with Steelform Ventilation Ltd. The projects are an upgrade of a dual steam extraction system from the slab casting machine cooling system and a new fume extraction plant for the main ladle bay. Both systems will be based on Rockwell Powerflex drives for the fan motors, SLC PLC’s and Panelview plus Man machine Interfaces.

The Ladle Arc Furnace No 3 at Corus’ Scunthorpe Works has now been fully commissioned and handed over to Corus for full production. The handover signified the end of a 14 month period for Inspec’s team of 5 engineers on the project and the successful conclusion of Inspec Solutions’ largest project to date.

The Electric Arc Furnace A at Alpha Steels Newport Factory has started production successfully, Inspec Solutions designed and supplied all control aspects of the Carbon Injection system, integrating the PLC and SCADA screens into the overall Melting Shop Control Systems, which are based on Siemens S7 PLC’s and WINCC SCADA systems. The “B” Furnace is due for startup in early 2005.

Ladle Arc Furnace 1 and all the supporting plants at Scunthorpe BOS plant has now been changed over from the original ABB control system to the new Rockwell system by Inspec Solutions. This completes the challenging project to change both Ladle Furnaces control systems in the BOS plant. The project has been completed on time and to budget and has been enthusiastically received by Corus operations and engineering sections.

As an addition to the Sakhalin SCADA system Inspec Solutions have been awarded a project to develop an electrical load shedding system based on Rockwell PLC’s to ensure that the available load from the offshore and onshore generators is not exceeded by plant requirements. The system will automatically isolate certain areas of plant based on complex algorithms and the current status of the platforms' and onshore generation capacity.

Inspec Solutions win order to undertake a number of large WinCC SCADA applications for S&I, the large switchgear manufacturers based in Bradford, West Yorkshire. The systems are for the Sakhalin Oil development in far eastern Russia. The SCADA systems have a combined IO point count of 40,000 and will have 300 separate control mimics for operations. The systems will be developed in both English and Russian versions and will be able to switch between the languages online.

The Risk Manager application has now been translated into Spanish for the BP dealer network, trials are ongoing and a Spanish wide launch during April 2004 is anticipated. Work is now also underway on Greek, Portuguese and Turkish versions, with French planned to follow in the summer.
Discussions are also now underway with the Energy Institute regarding a version for distribution terminals.

The system will manage the initial application process and the subsequent re-appraisal procedure.
